Czech Current Account Surplus Falls In April

Czech current account surplus decreased sharply from the previous month in April, data released by the Czech National Bank showed Friday.

The current account surplus dropped sharply to CZK5.275 billion in April from CZK10.651 billion in March. In February, the balance was a surplus of CZK12.385 billion. Economists expected the balance of payment account to record a deficit of CZK3.55 billion in April.

The surplus in the goods trade account decreased to CZK13.37 billion in April from CZK27.09 billion in the previous month, while the surplus in the services account rose to CZK4.785 billion from CZK3.437 billion.

The income account, meanwhile, showed a deficit of CZK9.652 billion during the month, sharply lower than the CZK18.431 billion deficit seen in March. The current transfers account showed a deficit of CZK3.229 billion, up from March's deficit of CZK1.450 billion, data showed.
