The euro area trade surplus fell to EUR 5.2 billion in April from EUR 7.5 billion in March, Eurostat said Friday. In April 2011, the trade balance showed a deficit of EUR 4.5 billion.
Meanwhile, seasonally adjusted trade surplus increased to EUR 6.2 billion in April from EUR 3.7 billion in the previous month.
On a monthly basis, seasonally adjusted exports were down 1.3 percent and imports declined 3 percent.
The extra-EU27 trade in goods deficit totaled EUR 12 billion, compared with a shortfall of EUR 7.3 billion in March.
