Construction production in the United Kingdom decreased from last year in April, data released by the Office for National Statistics showed Friday.
The volume of construction output decreased 8.5 percent on an annual basis in April. The overall volume of new construction works decreased 11.2 percent annually, while repair and maintenance works dropped 3.1 percent
Among new works, new public housing works fell 22.6 percent year-on-year, while new private housing works decreased 3.3 percent. There was a 2.5 percent annual decline in non-housing private commercial works during the month, and a 4 percent fall in non-housing private industrial works.
Compared to March, construction output fell by 13.2 percent in April. In the three months ended April, the unadjusted construction output dropped 6.7 percent from the same period a year earlier. Sequentially, output decreased 2.1 percent during the February-April period, data showed.
