NII Holdings Names Gokul Hemmady COO - Quick Facts

NII Holdings, Inc. (NIHD: Quote) said Gokul Hemmady, the company's executive vice president and chief financial officer, has been appointed as the company's chief operating officer, a newly-created position. In this new role, he will be responsible for oversight of the company's business operations across its markets.

Hemmady will continue to serve as the company's chief financial officer until a successor has been named.

Hemmady has served as the company's chief financial officer since 2007, adding the title chief transformation officer in February 2012. Before joining NII, he was vice president and chief financial officer of ADC Telecommunications.

Stocks moved sharply higher over the course of the trading day on Friday, more than offsetting the weakness seen on Thursday. While the IRS targeting scandal has taken center stage on Capitol Hill on Friday, the results of a new Gallup poll showed that the American public's interest in the story is comparatively low based on historical measures. The poll showed that 54 percent of Americans are following the news that the IRS targeted conservative groups for greater scrutiny "very" or "somewhat" closely.
