HBO Apologizes For George W. Bush Severed Head Incident On 'Game Of Thrones'
6/15/2012 12:25 PM ET

HBO has issued an apology to former president George W. Bush after a likeness of his severed head was featured on an episode of their original series "Game of Thrones." In the scene, a likeness of President Bush's head appears stuck on a spike, and the network says the decision was in poor taste.

"We were deeply dismayed to see this and find it unacceptable, disrespectful and in very bad taste," HBO said in a statement. "We made this clear to the executive producers of the series, who apologized immediately for this inadvertent careless mistake. We are sorry this happened and will have it removed from any future DVD production."

The show's producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss pointed out the likeness in the special features section of a DVD set. They have since issued their own apology and said it was not an intentional decision.

"After the scene was already shot, someone pointed out that one of the heads looked like George W. Bush," they said in a statement. "In the DVD commentary, we mentioned this, though we should not have. We meant no disrespect to the former president and apologize if anything we said or did suggested otherwise."
