C.J. Chivers, writer of the The Van Halen Encyclopedia, says that he is trying to release a hardcover edition of the rock desk reference.

The new edition, for which Chivers has begun a Kickstarter campaign, may add up to 30 pages to the 320 of the most recent edition. Students of the rock group, and scholars alike, may pledge $10 to receive a PDF or $25 for the stately hardbound edition.

Speaking with Ultimate Classic Rock, Chivers said the new edition builds upon the scholarship of the first:

"It's really about the amount of secrets that have been sent to me in the last decade. It's too much to keep to myself. Everyone seemed to love the design and feel of the first edition hardcover, so I wanted to bring back that level of quality. But books are much more expensive to produce now and thousands of people have the 1999 edition, so it's a matter of determining the level of interest out there."
