R. Kelly owes the Internal Revenue Service almost $5 million dollars in unpaid taxes. The bill adds up to $4.8 million and dates back to 2005 according to documents held by the Cook County Recorder of Deeds.
According to Billboard, the singer owes the money despite making substantial payments on back taxes in 2008 and 2011. He handed over as much as $2.6 million in 2008 and an additional $1 million in 2011.
The singer also had his 20,000-square foot Olympia Fields mansion foreclosed on last year, with J.P. Morgan Chase Bank claiming Kelly owed it more than $2.9 million.
Kelly has yet to publicly address the new tax allegations, but his new album Write Me Back is scheduled to be released later this month. The LP is the 11th of Kelly's career and is the follow-up to 2010's Love Letter.
