The average asking price in the United Kingdom jumped 1.0 percent on month in June, property tracking website Rightmove said on Monday, standing at a record 246,235 pounds. That follows the flat monthly reading in May.
On a yearly basis, house prices jumped 2.4 percent after rising 2.0 percent in the previous month.
The spike in prices was due to a shortage in available properties in the London region, Rightmove noted.
"The better properties in the better areas remain in short supply, giving sellers of sought-after stock, and their agents, the confidence to come to market at a higher price," Rightmove director Miles Shipside said in a release accompanying the data.
