The Flaming Lips appeared at North by Northeast (NXNE) during a day-long, free concert at Yonge-Dundas Square in Toronto. The event followed a stage collapse at Downsview Park earlier in the day, where Radiohead drum tech Scott Johnson was killed.
Lips frontman Wayne Coyne dedicated a cover of Radiohead's "Knives Out," to honor the fallen stagehand:
"This unthinkable thing that happened today, we can't all help but be affected by it. Peace be with their hearts tonight. This has been a pretty powerful day. This goes out to the Radiohead family," Coyne added before the performance.
There were about 20,000 people on hand for the show which also featured Portugal, the Man, Of Montreal, Oberhofer, Hollerado, Art vs. Science, Ceremony, Parlovr, Brasstronaut and the Burning Boyz.
