Unemployment in the Netherlands remained unchanged from the previous month in May, and the jobless rate matched economists' expectations, data released by the Central Bureau of Statistics showed Thursday.

The unemployment came in at 6.2 percent in May, unchanged from the previous month. The figure also matched economists' forecast. Unemployment rates for all ages were virtually unchanged from the previous month.

The number of unemployed persons in the country, on a seasonally adjusted basis, remained broadly unchanged at around 489,000 during the month.

Although the number of jobless remained the same, there is still an upward trend in unemployment as the number increased on an average of 9 thousand people per month in the past three months, the agency said.
