Lithuanian Industrial Output Falls In May

Industrial production in Lithuania decreased sharply from last year in May, after increasing in the previous month, data released by Statistics Lithuania showed Thursday.

Industrial production fell by 14.6 percent on an annual basis in May, reversing the previous month's 7 percent gain. In March, output had increased 5.9 percent from last year.

Mining and quarrying production plunged 17.4 percent year-on-year during the month, while manufacturing output dropped 14.8 percent. There was an 11.6 percent annual decrease in the production of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply during the month.

On a monthly basis, industrial output dropped 13.1 percent during the month, faster than the 5.5 percent decline registered in April, the agency said.
