Rio Tinto Says Long-term Outlook For Copper Remains Positive

Rio Tinto (RTNTF.PK,RIO: Quote,RIO.L,RTPPF.PK) said near-term volatility is likely to persist. Tier one assets delivered reliable cash flows and superior performance despite macro volatility. The company added that long-term copper outlook remains positive.

First tier one copper mine Oyu Tolgoi is 85% complete and first commercial production is expected by 2013. It is a world class asset and a top five copper producer and major gold producer, the company stated.

Besides, 51% ownership of Ivanhoe Mines are secured.

U.S. Durable Goods Orders Rise 3.3% In April, More Than Expected
After reporting a sharp drop in new orders for manufactured durable goods in the previous month, the Commerce Department released a report on Friday showing that durable goods orders rebounded by more than anticipated in the month of April.
