Ann Curry Out As Co-Host Of 'Today' Show?

Rumors are swirling that Ann Curry may be axed as co-host of the "Today Show" on NBC after just one season on the job. According to a report from the New York Daily News, Curry has been in secret negotiations with the network to find a different role on the program.

Curry's possible ouster could be due to the show's slight dip in ratings over the last few months. "Today" is perennially the number one morning show on television, but handed the top position over to "Good Morning America" for several weeks earlier this year.

"The 'Today' show was one of the things at NBC that they could always count on being number 1," said Robert Thompson, the founding director of Syracuse University's Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture to nypost.com. "And the fact that it's been being challenged for the first time in a long time now by ABC, I suppose has everybody scrambling."

He adds that it's only sensible that NBC would look for the simplest explanation: "The first thing you do is you look at what's changed, what are the variables. Ann Curry as a cohost is one of the recent variables."
