Universal Display Reports On Annual Meeting Of Shareholders

Universal Display Corp. (PANL: Quote) held its 2012 Annual Meeting of Shareholders at the Crowne Plaza Philadelphia West in Philadelphia, PA.

The company updated shareholders on its strong financial performance over the past year including its first full-year profit, significant business milestones led by a long-term licensing agreement with Samsung in 2011, and the introduction of an expanded line of UniversalPHOLED products and OLED technologies supported by an ever-strengthening intellectual property portfolio.

Steven Abramson, Universal Display's President and Chief Executive Officer, also noted major business milestones achieved during 2011 including agreements with Samsung Mobile Display Co. (SMD), under which Universal Display will license its technologies and sell its proprietary materials to SMD for use in its line of OLED display products.

Hewlett-Packard Co. said Wednesday after the markets closed that its second quarter profit fell 32% from last year, hurt by lower revenue and weaker margins amid a slump in PC sales. However, the company's quarterly earnings per share, excluding items, came in above analysts' expectations, but its quarterly revenue fell short of analysts' forecast. Stocks showed a substantial downturn over the course of the trading day on Wednesday after seeing some strength in morning trading. Renewed worries about the Federal Reserve tapering its asset purchase program contributed to the sharp pullback by the markets.
