"Skinny and Cat," the first film directed by Barbara Streisand since 1996's "The Mirror Has Two Faces," may feature Colin Firth and Cate Blanchett. Both actors have been tentatively attached to the film.
The plot would center on the real-life romance between writer Erskine Caldwell (Firth) and photojournalist Margaret Bourke White (Blanchett). The period film, written by Linda Yellen, has been described as an "epic love story."
Streisand previously directed "The Prince of Tides" and "Yentl," the latter of which she got an Oscar for Best Director.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the film has neither financial backing or a "greenlight" yet. Nevertheless, filming is expected to begin in January 2013.
"This is hard to raise money for? Barbara opined to Variety. "I'm just in shock. Hollywood has changed so much. It's about a woman ahead of her time."
