Jennifer Hudson has announced she will be making an appearance on the NBC theatre show Smash.
The American Idol alum will be joining Katharine McPhee, who is also a former contestant on American Idol. Hudson will be appearing in multiple episodes of the show.
This stint on Smash will mark Hudson's first professional gig aside from being a spokesperson for Weight Watchers, since her brother-in-law was convicted of killing her mother, brother and nephew in 2008.
Hudson will play the role of Veronica Moore, a Tony-winning stage actress who stirs up some trouble surrounding the show's fictional musical "Bombshell," about Marilyn Monroe.
"Her character will represent someone who reached their Broadway dream but also paid a price for it," said NBC's Robert Greenblatt in a statement.
Smash's first season saw guest appearances from Uma Thurman, Bernadette Peters and Nick Jonas.
