Finnish Unemployment Rate Declines In May

Finland's unemployment rate decreased from last year in May, data released by Statistics Finland showed Tuesday.

The unemployment rate decreased to 9.5 percent in May from 9.8 percent in the same month last year. The unemployment rate among youth, aged between 15 and 24, was 30.7 percent during the month, 2.7 percentage points lower than in the previous year's May.

The number of unemployed persons in the country decreased to around 266,000 in May from about 274,000 a year earlier.

At the same time, the employment rate increased to 69.9 percent in May from 69.2 percent a year earlier. There were approximately 2.53 million persons in employment at the end of the month, higher than around 2.51 million recorded a year earlier, data showed.
