French Consumer Sentiment Stable In June

Confidence among French households remained unchanged in June, after improving modestly in the previous month, data released by statistical office Insee showed Tuesday.

The consumer confidence index remained unchanged at 90 in June, while economists expected the index to drop to 89. In April, the reading was 89.

Consumers were slightly more downbeat about their personal finances in the past twelve months, with the relevant indicator dropping to -24 in June from -23 in May. Similarly, the measure of households' expectations of their financial situation in the next twelve months dropped to -17 from -16.

The sub-indicator that gauges consumers' views of the country's economic condition in the past twelve months decreased to -68 in June from -66 in May. Households' expectations of the prospects for the general economic condition in the coming months turned slightly more pessimistic in June. The corresponding indicator dropped to -34 from -33 in the previous month.

Meanwhile, French households' perception of their capacity to save remained unchanged during the month, with the corresponding sub-index staying steady at -6, data showed.
