Rumors are swirling that NBC may reunite Regis Philbin and Kathie Lee Gifford for the fourth hour of the "Today" show. The rumor comes amidst controversy for the show, which recently dumped Ann Curry as a co-host.
According to the New York Daily News the former morning team may reconnect if Kathie Lee's current partner Hoda Kotb is moved up into the main co-host position to fill in for the exiting Curry. Other rumors suggest that Savannah Guthrie may fill the role.
News broke last week that NBC has offered to buy the remaining $10 million on Curry's contract as co-host following a dip in the show's ratings. She took over for Meredith Vieira in 2011 and addressed her critics with Ladies Home Journal, saying:
"When people say negative things or speculate, you can't help but feel hurt. I know NBC pays my salary, but I have never doubted who I work for. I think about the people who watch. They're the ones who matter to me. I want to feel I haven't dropped the ball when it comes to them," she said.
