Mary J. Blige has finally spoken out about her highly ridiculed and criticized Burger King commercial, saying that the backlash from the failed spot "crushed" her and "broke her heart."

In the commercial, Blige sings about the chain's new crispy chicken snack wraps. But when the spot went viral, earlier this year, the ad was heavily panned and even labeled racist by some.

"It just broke my heart," Blige said in an interview with Angie Martinez.

"People were going crazy. I wanted to crawl under the bed. It was a mistake, but I did it because I thought it was something that wouldn't come out like that. It was sold to us that I would be shot in an iconic way. I was looking for someone to have mercy, but no one had mercy. It was a learning experience. It hurt my feelings. It crushed me for like two days."

Blige also offered a heartfelt apology to anyone who was offended by the commercial.

"I want to apologize to everyone that was offended or thought that I would do something so disrespectful to our culture. I would never do anything like that purposely. I thought I was doing something right, so forgive me."
