Greek Retail Sales Continue To Decline

Retail sales in Greece decreased for the twenty-fifth consecutive month in April, data released by the Hellenic Statistical Authority showed Friday.

Retail sales volume, in real terms, excluding automotive fuel, decreased 14 percent year-on-year in April, slower than the 14.2 percent gain seen March. Sales declined for the twenty-fifth consecutive month.

Sales in the food sector fell 10.7 percent annually, while sales of automotive fuel declined 11.6 percent. There was a 17.9 percent annual fall in retail sales of non-food articles, excluding automotive fuel, during the month and a 27.2 percent annual fall in retail sales of clothing and footwear, data showed.

On a monthly basis, retail sales turnover in real terms, excluding automotive fuel, increased 8.2 percent in April, the agency said.
