Air Strike Kills Taliban Leader In East Afghanistan

A Taliban leader who is also an explosives expert was killed in an air strike in Eastern Afghanistan on Thursday.

Maulawi Sadiq was killed in a joint operation by Afghan and coalition security forces in Charkh district, Logar province, the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said in a press release on Friday.

He coordinated the movement of insurgents, provided explosive materials and training to insurgents, and planned attacks against Afghan and Coalition forces in the region.

Separately, Afghan and coalition security forces arrested a Haqqani leader in Sabari district, Khost province, on Friday. He fabricated improvised explosive devices, purchased weapons, and coordinated attacks against Afghan and coalition forces throughout the region.

Also on Friday, an operation to detain a Taliban leader in Khugyani district, Nangarhar province, resulted in the capture of several suspected insurgents and seizure of multiple AK-47s, shotguns and illegal narcotics.

A number of suspected insurgents were detained in another operation in Kandahar district, Kandahar province, the press release said.
