Switzerland's real retail sales rose sharply by 6.2 percent in May from a year ago, the Federal Statistical Office said Monday. The increase follows April's 0.2 percent rise.
Excluding fuel, retail turnover gained 6 percent annually, reversing a 0.1 percent fall in the prior month.
Retail sales of food, drinks and tobacco registered an increase in real turnover of 3.7 percent. At the same time, the non-food sector registered a positive growth of 6.8 percent.
On a monthly basis, retail sales grew 1 percent in May, partially offsetting the 1.3 percent drop in April.
