The popular British period drama "Downton Abbey" has reportedly caused a spike in online searches for vintage clothing. According to a report from HollywoodReporter.com, the show's growing popularity has caused a nearly 300 percent increase in searches for the garb on one popular website.

Chinese website Alibaba.com reports that vintage clothing searches, especially items like those seen on the show, have exploded since it was released worldwide last year:

"Period drama clothing and accessories are in fashion, and it is apparently due to a combination of the Royal Wedding, the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the very popular Downton Abbey series. We're even seeing trends of Downton Abbey parties popping up around the world, creating consumer interest and extra sales for small businesses in the vintage clothing industry," says Molly Morgan, senior manager, international corporate affairs, Alibaba.com EMEA.
