CNN reported on Sunday night (July 1) that Gotye had shot himself in the head, forcing the Australian singer to issue a suicide denial via Twitter.
"At 4:32 AM EST, it was reported that Gotye had shot himself in the head with a 9mm handgun. He was pronounced dead at 4.45AM, and the investigation concluded that the cause of death was suicide," said the report.
"I'm not dead. #Pinkalbumtitles'," Gotye wrote in response.
Later, Tim Shiel, Gotye's bandmate, had fun with the news network's gaffe:
"It saddens me to confirm the news of Gotye's passing - he suffered cardiac arrest while flying a unicorn over a double rainbow."
CNN has since removed the story and issued an apology to the singer. The news agency noted that the story was yanked within minutes of its posting.
