Hungarian Trade Surplus Falls In April

Hungary's merchandise trade surplus decreased from the previous month in April, final data released by the Central Statistical Office showed Tuesday.

The trade surplus decreased to EUR379.4 million in April from EUR635.9 million in March. In April 2011, the trade balance was a surplus of EUR424.8 million. The latest figure was lower than the EUR396.3 million surplus recorded in the preliminary estimates.

Export of goods decreased 4 percent on annual basis in April, after dropping 3.1 percent in the previous month. The value of imports decreased 3.5 percent compared to the previous month, faster than the 0.4 percent decrease seen in the previous month.

In the January-April period, the trade balance was a surplus of EUR2.126 billion. Exports decreased 1.6 percent annually during the four-month period, while imports remained unchanged, data showed.
