HBO has confirmed that they will bring back their smash hit vampire series "True Blood" for a sixth season. The show stars Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer and Alexander Skarsgard and follows a group of vampires who live amongst humans in a small Louisiana town.
The show's ratings have dipped steadily each season thus far but it still remains the highest ranked cable network show on Sunday nights. The news comes at a time of transition for the show, as showrunner Alan Ball announced his departure from the series at the end of this season. Ball broke the news in February citing exhaustion and said:
"'True Blood' has been, and will continue to be, a highlight of not only my career but my life," Ball said in a statement. "Because of the fantastic cast, writers, producers and crew, with whom I have been lucky enough to work these past five years, I know I could step back and the show will continue to thrive as I look forward to new and exciting ventures."
