Ireland Live Register Total Rises For Second Month

The number of persons signing up for job-seekers' allowance in Ireland increased for the second straight month in June, data released by the Central Statistics Office showed Wednesday.

The number of persons signing up on the live register, on an unadjusted basis, rose to 451,974 in June from 432,907 in May. In April, the live register total was 430,001.

The number of long-term claimants on the live register increased 6.8 percent on an annual basis to 199,249 during the month. In June, 55.9 of all claimants on the live register were short term claimants, down from 59.2 percent recorded a year earlier.

On a seasonally adjusted basis, the live register total recorded a monthly increase of 2,700 in June, the agency said.

At the same time, standardized unemployment rate in Ireland increased to 14.9 percent in June, after holding steady at 14.7 percent in the previous month.
