The United States strongly condemned repeated shelling of Lebanese territory by the Syrian artillery resulting in injury and death of several Lebanese citizens.
Speaking at a daily press briefing on Tuesday, State Department Director Patrick Ventrell said "these incidents constitute a flagrant disregard on the part of the Assad regime for both Lebanese sovereignty and United Nations Security Council resolutions."
He called upon the Syrian regime to respect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all of its neighbors.
"We encourage all parties to exercise restraint and demonstrate respect for Lebanon's security and stability consistent with United Nations Security Council Resolutions 1559 and 1701," he told reporters. He reiterated the U.S. government's commitment to a stable, sovereign, and independent Lebanon.
