Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney's youngest son appears in the campaign's latest Spanish language ad, imploring Latino voters to get to know his father.
"I want to tell you who my father is, Mitt Romney. He is a man of great convictions. He's been married for over 40 years to my mom. Together they have five sons and 18 grandchildren," Craig Romney, 31, says in the fluent Spanish he learned while on a Mormon missionary trip to Chile.
"He loves our country greatly. What he has achieved has been through hard work - and it is with that same dedication that he will fight to get our country on the right track and create jobs," Craig adds.
The ad is the eighth Spanish-language ad released by the Romney campaign since January and the latest attempt to convince some of the voting bloc to join the ranks of the former Massachusetts governor.
A poll released Wednesday by Quinnipac showed President Barack Obama leads by a wide margin of 59 to 30 percent among Hispanic American voters. However, the Romney campaign continues to court this group.
Latino Mormons make up around 7 percent of the church's total membership. Although a small number, some have spoken out recently against Romney's strong enforcement stance on immigration, which they say goes directly against the Latter Day Saints' pro-immigrant stance.
In recent years, the LDS Church has come out strongly for immigration reform, even issuing a June 2011 statement urging steps to be taken to move forward on comprehensive reform.
"Public officials should create and administer laws that reflect the best of our aspirations as a just and caring society. Such laws will properly balance love for neighbors, family cohesion, and the observance of just and enforceable laws," the LDS statement reads.
The Romney campaign is hoping their youngest son's ad appearance will bolster the church's strong emphasis placed on the role of family in one's life.
