Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith hit Twitter on July 9 to say that the band would be coming to South Africa as part of its 2013 tour.

"RT @sin_says_hi: It's not a world tour if you don't come to Africa. @RHCPchad @flea333 Just sayin'/ Ok then..Were comin in Feb!"

Big Concerts, a concert promoter which brought Lady Gaga to South Africa at the end of 2012 and as well as acts such as Kings of Leon, U2 and Coldplay, has not responded to Smith's comment.

However, Big Concerts' CEO Attie van Wyk told EyeWitnessNews.co.za that he is currently in London negotiating with the band's management.

The band kicked off its current tour in Florida in March and spent two months traveling North America before taking in a series of European festivals.
