Japanese Industrial Output Falls More Than Initial Estimate

Japan's industrial production declined more than estimated in May, final data from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry showed Friday.

Industrial output was down 3.4 percent from a month ago, sharper than the 3.1 percent drop initially estimated. Annually, production grew 6 percent.

Shipments dropped 1.3 percent month-on-month and inventory dipped 0.7 percent. The monthly variations were revised down from -1.5 percent and -0.6 percent, respectively.

In May, capacity utilization declined at a faster pace of 2.2 percent on month, following a 0.6 percent drop in April.
