A suicide attack in a wedding reception in northern Afghanistan on Saturday claimed the lives of nearly 21 people, including a well-known politician Ahmad Khan Samangani.
The blast took place on Saturday morning in Aybak, the capital of the Samangan province. About 40 others were wounded in the attack.
The reception was hosted by Samangani, a member of parliament, on the occasion of his daughter's wedding. The attacker apparently was among the guests and blew himself up when he got close to the leader.
Samangani, who is a prominent leader from the province, became famous during Afghanistan's fight against the Soviets in the 1980s.
