Celeste Holm, the stage and screen star best known for her work in the musical "Oklahoma!" and the film "Gentleman's Agreement," has died at her home in New York City at the age of 95.

Holm rose to national success for her role as Ado Annie in "Oklahoma!" and was honored with an Oscar in 1948 for her role in "Gentleman's Agreement." She also earned Oscar nods in 1949 and 1950 for "Come to the Stable" and "All About Eve."

Though her initial success came in New York, Holm made a name for herself in Los Angeles and recalled her time in Tinsel Town saying: "Hollywood is a good place to learn how to eat a salad without smearing your lipstick."

Her later life was rife with controversy as her two sons were engaged in a lengthy legal battle against her fifth husband, a former waiter named Frank Basile. The lawsuit left Holm with little savings and she was supported largely by Social Security.
