The Romney campaign furthered speculation over when a possible running mate would be announced Tuesday, as it named Randy Bumps and Kevin Sheridan as staff for the future Vice Presidential candidate.
"I'm proud to add Randy and Kevin to our growing team," Campaign Manager Matt Rhoades said in a statement. "They both have enjoyed long and distinguished careers in our party. Their work will be vital as we move forward in the campaign to defeat President Obama and elect Mitt Romney."
Bumps currently acts as the Executive Vice President at public affairs firm Direct Impact and previously served as Political Director for the National Republican Senatorial Committee, Regional Political Director for the Republican National Committee and a multi-term Maine state representative.
Sheridan is currently on leave as senior vice president at the public relations firm Edelman and is a George W. Bush hold-over, acting as RNC spokesman and director of regional media during the 2004 campaign.
Rumors have been rampant over when the Romney would name his choice for running mate. The campaign has only confirmed that a choice would be made before the Republican convention.
"We're getting ready to share some exciting news. Sometime between now and the Republican convention, Mitt will be announcing his choice for VP," Rhoades told supporters in a July 12th email.
This past weekend, pundits went wild when web-based column the Drudge Report, known for breaking the Monica Lewinsky scandal, named Condoleezza Rice as the top choice for Romney's VP.
The former Secretary of State and National Security Adviser under George W. Bush had previously all but taken herself out of the VP pool, stating in late June there was "no way" she would be Romney's running mate.
"I'm saying there is no way that I will do this, because it's really not me. I know my strengths and Governor Romney needs to find someone who wants to run with him. There are many people who will do it very, very well, and I'll support the ticket," Rice told CBS' Charlie Rose on June 26th.
Whether Rice is an actual contender for the position or not, many pundits believe the VP decision has already been made. The New York Times reported the choice will only be made after a "sometimes intrusive" 80-question survey on political, financial and even personal matters.
Some notables who are believed to be in the running are former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty, Florida Senator Marco Rubio, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, Ohio Sen. Rob Portman and Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan.
