One of the Sea Dragon helicopters of the U.S. military crashed in the Omani capital Muscat on Thursday.
The MH-53E chopper, assigned to Helicopter Mine Countermeasure Squadron-15, went down 58 miles southwest of Muscat while conducting heavy lift support operations, according to a news release from the U.S. Naval Forces Central Command.
The crash was not due to hostile activity and the status of the five crew members is still being ascertained, the release said.
Another MH-53E helicopter assigned to the squadron is on the scene, providing search and rescue assistance.
The Central Command said the incident was under investigation.
