Taiwan's industrial production decreased from last year in June, defying economists' expectations for a modest increase, data released by the Ministry of External Affairs showed Monday
Industrial production decreased 2.44 percent on an annual basis in June, while economists were looking for a 0.5 percent increase.
Production in the manufacturing sector decreased 2.31 percent annually, while output of electricity and gas supply dropped by 4.32 percent. There was a 10.11 percent annual fall in construction industry during the month. Meanwhile, output in the mining and quarrying sector advanced 9.41 percent annually in June.
Month-on-month, production decreased 5.23 percent during the month, the agency said.
