Liam Gallagher has been confirmed as the latest performer at the Olympics closing ceremony. The former Oasis member will perform the band's signature hit, "Wonderwall" with his new group, Beady Eye.

The 1995 track will be re-arranged for the performance by composer David Arnold.

According to The Sun, the chance to perform "Wonderwall" was initially offered to Noel Gallagher, but the High Flying Birds frontman declined the offer.

"A couple of months back the Olympic production team got in touch with Noel about playing his part in the closing ceremony. Along with his manager, they thought long and hard about it. It was a big temptation, with 650 million people expected to tune in on TV," a source told the mag.

The Who, Kaiser Chiefs, Take That, George Michael, Coldplay and Paul McCartney have been confirmed to perform at various Olympic events.
