United Bancorp Q2 Profit Slips

United Bancorp Inc. (UBCP) Tuesday reported a decline in profit for the second quarter, due mainly to lower incomes.

The Martins Ferry, Ohio-based company's second-quarter net profit was $731 thousand, compared to $752 thousand last year. On a per-share basis, earnings were flat at $0.15.

Net interest income for the quarter dropped to $3.64 million from $3.99 million in the year-ago quarter. Total non-interest income slipped to $677 thousand from $894 thousand in the prior-year quarter.

Loan loss provisions for the quarter decreased to $167 thousand from $494 thousand last year.

Non-interest expense for the quarter decreased to $3.18 million from $3.47 million in the prior-year quarter.
