Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie has released a solo single, "Ichiro's Theme," in the lead up to his latest solo album, Former Lives.
The Ichiro of the title refers to Ichiro Suzuki, the former Seattle Mariner, who was recently dealt to the New York Yankees.
"Totally okay with this trade. Thanks for your best years, Ichiro. We will always look back on them fondly. #Mariners #Ichiro I wrote this song a few years ago. Today seems like the best day to share it with you. Thank you so much, Ichiro," tweeted Gibbard prior to the release of the track.
Gibbard's new LP is comprised of material written over an eight year time period. A short tour will launch in support of the album.
Former Lives, distributed on the Barsuk Records label, is due October 16.
