Russell Brand has been charged with one count of misdemeanor criminal damage to property after taking an iPhone from photographer Timothy Jackson and hurling it through the window of a law firm.

A $700 misdemeanor warrant was issued for his arrest on March 12, prompting Brand, 36, to turn himself into New Orleans police on March 15.

Days later, Brand hit Twitter to joke about the incident:
"Since Steve Jobs died I cannot bear to see anyone use an iphone irreverently, what I did was a tribute to his memory."

According to TMZ, Brand has hired high powered New Orleans attorney Robert Glass to fight the charges. If convicted, he faces six months in jail or a $500 fine.

Brand's attorney could not be reached for comment.
