Robin Roberts said on Thursday (July 26) that she will be taking medical leave from her post at ABC's "Good Morning America" as she continues to struggle with her bone and marrow disease, myelodysplastic syndrome.
"It's fascinating-slash-scary how to prepare yourself for something like this," Roberts, who has already survived breast cancer, said at the Television Critics Association press tour.
Roberts' leave will begin late next month as she gets a bone marrow transplant and last indefinitely. She notes that, despite several moments of "fatigue," the show's recent run of ratings victories over NBC's "Today" has lifted her spirits:
"The run that we've had has truly energized me. It's pretty good medicine, I gotta say, to be taking!"
Barbara Walters, Diane Sawyer, Katie Couric, Kelly Ripa are among those slated to fill in for Roberts.
