CS&N/Rick Rubin Studio Session Goes Poorly

CS&N/Rick Rubin Studio Session Goes Poorly

Graham Nash says that Crosby, Stills, and Nash's recent time spent in the studio with producer Rick Rubin was "not a great experience." The 70-year-old singer reveals that Rubin did not mesh well with the veteran rockers.

"After almost 50 years of making records, we think we know what we're doing, so it's very hard to tell Crosby, Stills and Nash what to do," Nash told MusicRadar in an interview.

Yet, Rubin took a dictatorial approach in the studio that surprised--and miffed—CS&N. "We felt like we had this guy who was telling us what to do all the time," said Nash. "I mean, who the f**k is Rick Rubin? I know he's sold millions of records, but who the fuck is he to tell Crosby, Stills and Nash what to do?"

"Guide us - yes. Make suggestions - fantastic. 'Try it this way' - no problem. But don't tell us what to do. You can't," Nash explained.

Regardless of the bad experience with Rubin, CSN is pressing on with a new album, titled Songs We Wish We'd Written.
