Pete Townshend, Robert Plant, Elton John, Brian May, and other top U.K. artists are speaking out against Google and its role in facilitating file sharing in the U.K.
The collective of artists penned an open letter to British Prime Minister David Cameron imploring him to clamp down on the search engine giant in order to protect the property of the U.K.'s biggest musical names.
"The simplest way to ensure this would be to implement swiftly the long overdue measures in the Digital Economy Act 2010 and to ensure broadband providers, search engines and online advertisers play their part in protecting consumers and creators from illegal sites," the letter read.
The letter was published in the U.K. newspaper the Daily Telegraph and insists that "[Search engines must] play their part in protecting consumers and creators from illegal sites."
The Digital Economy Act 2010 is an act of the Parliament regulating digital media. Even though the act is in force, none of the sections relating to online piracy will be implemented until 2014.
