Lady Gaga will star in the new Machete film as a character called Lady Chameleon. The news was announced by the film's director, Robert Rodriguez, who said via Twitter: "I just finished working with @LadyGaga on @MacheteKills . . . Holy Smokes. Blown away!"
Gaga confirmed the news, also via Twitter, saying, "I will be making my debut as an actress ln the amazing MACHETE KILLS BY @RODRIGUEZ IM SO EXCITED!!! AH! Filming was insane." Machete Kills is the sequel to Rodriguez's 2010 film, Machete, which starred Danny Trejo as former Mexican federale Machete Cortez.
Lady Chameleon will be Gaga's first feature acting role. She has previously appeared as an extra in The Sopranos, while also having cameo roles in The Simpsons and Men in Black 3.
Charlie Sheen, Mel Gibson, Sofia Vergara, Jessica Alba, Vanessa Hudgens and Cuba Gooding Jr. fill out the all-star cast. Machete Kills is due sometime in 2013.
