Portuguese Retail Sales Continue To Fall

Portugal's retail sales decreased at a faster rate in June, continuing the downward trend, data released by Statistics Portugal showed Monday.

Retail sales volume declined 5.2 percent on an annual basis in June, after falling 4.4 percent in the previous month. In April, the rate of fall was 9.8 percent.

Sales of food, beverages and tobacco decreased 2.8 percent annually, while sales of non-food items fell by 7.6 percent during the month. Retail sales of non-food products, excluding fuel, were lower by 6.8 percent compared to a year earlier, data showed.

Compared to May, retail sales increased 0.3 percent in June, notably slower than the previous month's 3.4 percent growth.
