Drake says that he is the first person to truly combine the arts or rapping and singing. During a recent interview with the Jewish Chronicle, the Toronto-based MC says that many before him have made melodic hip-hop, but he's the first to rap and sing in the same song.
"There were people who incorporated melody before me, but I would deem myself the first person to successfully rap and sing," he said in the interview.
Part of his unique persona stems from the fact that he isn't forced to take on a certain character for his act, he said.
"I'm one of the few artists who gets to be himself every day," he said. "It doesn't take me six hours to get ready and I don't have to wake up in the morning and remember to act like this or talk like this. I just have to be me."
