NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) has questioned Taliban leader Mullah Omar's moral authority to lead the terrorist outfit in the wake of a bomb attack on an Afghan mosque that killed five, including an imam and a judge.
No group has so far claimed responsibility for the bomb explosion early Monday morning in the Khairo Kariz area of Tarinkot district in Uruzgan Province.
But the head of the coalition forces in Afghanistan says "Only the forces of Mullah Omar are perpetrating these kinds of murders."
In a statement on Monday, ISAF Commander General John R. Allen said he joins President Hamid Karzai in condemning this act in the strongest possible terms.
"The Taliban murdered an Imam in his mosque during the holy month of Ramazan. Only the forces of Mullah Omar are perpetrating these kinds of murders. It is correct to ask where is his moral authority to lead when his henchmen transgress against the faith of Islam in such a blatant and heinous manner," the statement added.
"Where is his outrage at this offense against innocent Afghans and their religious scholars? And why does he not publicly condemn this act, or discipline the thugs of his movement?", he asked.
Gen Allen said his forces offer its "prayers and condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives to the enemies of Afghanistan's bright and peaceful future."
Local officials also point their fingers on the Taliban militants, as such incidents are characteristic of them. Taliban fighters frequently use explosive devices as the weapon of their choice to target Afghan and ISAF forces and Afghan government officials.
