Italy's producer price inflation slowed less than economists expected in June, data released by statistical office Istat showed Tuesday.

The producer price index for the domestic market grew 2.2 percent year-on-year in June, weaker than the 2.3 percent increase recorded in May. Economists expected a slower growth of 2 percent.

Compared to May, domestic output prices edged down 0.1 percent in June, following the previous month's 0.3 percent decrease. Economists were looking for a 0.2 percent fall.

Producer prices in the export market grew 1.2 percent annually in June, with prices in the euro area and non-euro area rising 0.5 percent and 1.5 percent respectively.

Overall prices, including both the local market and the overseas market, grew 2.1 percent compared to June 2011, data showed.
