Techne Q4 Earnings Down Slightly - Quick Facts

Techne Corp.'s (TECH: Quote) fourth-quarter net earnings slipped to $27.24 million or $0.74 per share, from $28.33 million or $0.76 per share a year ago.

Net sales for the recent quarter totaled $78.68 million, compared with $78.04 million in 2011.

On average, 6 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected earnings per share of $0.85 on $80.14 million revenue for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude one-time items.

Separately, Techne announced that its board has decided to pay a dividend of $0.28 per share for the quarter ended June 30, 2012, payable August 24, 2012 to all common shareholders of record on August 10, 2012. Future cash dividends would be considered by the board on a quarterly basis.

There was a mixed performance on Wall Street on Friday. Shares suffered an early decline, as investors continued to express worries about the Federal Reserve. A recovery through the rest of the day allowed the Dow to edge into positive territory by the close. The Nasdaq and S&P 500 posted fractional losses. The major averages have slid firmly into negative territory, adding to the modest losses posted in the previous session. The major averages are currently posting notable losses, near their lows for the young session. After reporting a sharp drop in new orders for manufactured durable goods in the previous month, the Commerce Department released a report on Friday showing that durable goods orders rebounded by more than anticipated in the month of April. The report said durable goods orders surged up by 3.3 percent in April after tumbling by a revised 5.9 percent in March.
